CADBURY HEATH, Somerset - (1) Youth Club, (2) History Group, both 1990.
CADLEIGH, Devon - a 4' x 3' map painted on board and displayed in the village hall, 1995.
CALSTOCK, Cornwall - Paint, pen and ink poster created through the Parish Paths Partnership scheme, initiated by Calstock Parish Council, 1996.
CALVERTON, Notts - painted display boards.
CAM, Gloucs - a watercoulour map of the footpaths of the Parish painted by Gill Littleford in 1999. The map was printed and folded to the size of an Ordnance Survey map and given to the local school children as a Millennium gift. They are available for sale in a local shop.
CAMBERWELL SCHOOL OF ART, London - in 1987 three maps were produced in the Graphics Department: (1) Brixton by Louise Hancock, (2) City Farm by Rachel Furlong and (3) Deptford High Street, Walking Home by Karen Hayles.
CANTERBURY, Kent - (1) 'A circular walk in Canterbury', 1987; (2) 38 maps made as part of a pre-foundation course at Canterbury Technical College, 1989.
CAPEL and COLDHARBOUR, Surrey - a map featuring watercolour and calligraphy work made in 1994 for the centenary of the parish council.

CARSHALTON, Surrey - a 'living heritage' map made in 1992 as a community notice board.
CASTLE CARY, Somerset - a 60" x 4" painting commissioned by the Friends of Ansford School in 1994, and involving 30 adults and 6 children in its creation. It is displayed in the Tourist Offce (Old Market House).
CATSFIELD, East Sussex - a school tree map.
CAVENDISH, Suffolk - a map and book produced in 1999.
CHADLINGTON, Oxfordshire - a map painted and drawn between 1992-94. Adapted from the Ordnance Survey sheet by the local history group, it shows field names and footpaths, as well as local flora and fauna, buildings and historical information.
CHAGFORD, Devon - The Chagford Times I and II produced as newspapers in 1988 as well as a tape, a diary, walks, WI applique, a community play and a series of posters showing the flora, geology, footpaths, lace, chimneys, industries and bridges. A 1955 painting of Chagford has also been unearthed by the Parish Council.
CHAPEL LAWN, Shropshire - a map which started in 1991 as a quilted triptych, but evolved into a backdrop for a 'performance map' called 'The Ballad of Chapel Lawn'.
CHARDSTOCK, Devon - Chardstock Parish Map Group (later Chardstock Historical Record Group) produced a Parish Map and accompanying booklet in 1998-9. CHARLBURY, Oxfordshire - a 39" x 30" painted map initiated by The Charlbury Society in 1990-91. Its creation sprang from concerns over local gravel pits and their water content, and involved many local people from walkers and artists to calligraphers. It resulted in the formation of permanent groups who keep local footpaths in order. The map is housed in Charlbury Corner House.
CHARLTON HORETHORNE, Somerset - a cast bronze relief, 4' x 2'6", made in 1993-94, looking at the past, present and future of the parish, situated by the village pump.
CHARLTON MACKRELL, Somerset - a 6' x 4' paper collage depicting the village's past and present.
CHARTHAM, Kent - (1) Six textile wall hangings in the shape of villages in the parish, 1986; (2) Favourite Things and Recreation maps started in 1996 with artist Graham Clark (who also worked on the Elham map) to build up to a Field Names map.
CHEARSLEY, Buckinghamshire - produced by an ex-RAF navigator, these maps are done in inks and coloured pencils, 1994.
CHENIES, Buckinghamshire - Artist commissioned by Parish Council - a 28" by 21" painting was produced.
CHESHIRE LANDSCAPE TRUST were early collaborators with Common Ground on the Parish Maps project, later linking with the Cheshire Federation of Women's Institutes.
CHESTERTON, Northants - a 2' square watercolour made in 1988 for a rural community council exhibition.
CHESTERTON and KINGSTON, Warwickshire - a 31" x 30" watercolour made in 1988.
CHESWICK GREEN, Warwickshire - an appliqued altar cloth made in 1982.
CHEW MAGNA, Somerset - made in Ellsbridge House calligraphy class, 1995.
CHICHESTER, West Sussex - Three maps have been made as part of the West Sussex Millennium Parish Maps Project: (1) St John's Street, a 30" x 97" collage of photographs by Jane Weeks and Deborah Mitchelson. It is kept in the County Record Office. See what local people have said about the map; (2) Whyke, a 16" x 23" computer-assembled watercolour, pen & ink and photographic collage; (3) Chichester City. The maps are featured in the book A Sense of Place.
CHIDEOCK, Dorset - a 4' square poster in the village hall, made in 1989-90. See the map and read more about it here. Printed copies can be bought from the Clock House Inn and Chideock Hill Stores.
CHIDHAM, West Sussex - a 63" x 43" textile map featuring fabric painting, patchwork, embroidery and applique, made as part of the West Sussex Millennium Parish Maps Project. It is kept in St Mary's Church. A2 sized copies are for sale at £6.50 (inc. p&p). Postcards and notelets featuring details from the borders of the map are also available (Postcards £2.40 for 8 inc p&p, notelets £3.00 for 8 with envelopes, inc p&p) and a book "We Remember Chidham 1930 to 1960": Contact us for details of where you can buy these items: email info [at] commonground.org.uk. The needlework map has been recorded for the National Needlework Record's Stitch 2000 Project. An image of the map is featured on the community web-site and it is featured in the book A Sense of Place.
CHIGNALS, Essex - Kate Middleditch tells us that this Millennium map (left) "documents and celebrates the peoples, pastimes, landscape and buildings in the villages of Chignal Smealey and Chignal St James in the year 2000. The map was researched, painted and designed and produced by villagers with the support of local printing and copying firms, Chignal Parish Council, Chelmsford Borough Council and the Parish Paths Partnership, an initiative funded by the Essex County Council Transportation and Operational Services."
CHIPPING SODBURY, Gloucestershire - A local school produced a bird's eye view of the area using computer generated images, 1990.
CHOLESBURY CUM ST.LEONARDS, Buckinghamshire - A full colour A1 map, made between 1998 and 2000. Copies are for sale in the village. The central area depicts every household and key buildings, all roads and fields. There is a web-site dedicated to this.
CHOLSEY, Oxfordshire - a 3' x 2' painting produced for the village's millennium in 1989. It shows features past and present, and is housed in the Pavilion on Station Road.
CHORLEYWOOD, Hertfordshire - a painted A1 poster initiated by the parish council in 1995, with over 30 local artists becoming involved. Displayed in the library.
CHURCH KNOWLE, Dorset - a poster made in 1989 showing agriculture, geology, minerals, local history and field names.
CHURCH OVER, Warwickshire - made in 1991 for the Rugby BC competition.
CLAPHAM and PATCHING, West Sussex - a 53" x 39" watercolour map made as part of the West Sussex Millennium Parish Maps Project. It is on display in the village hall and is featured in the book A Sense of Place.
CLAVENDON, Warwickshire - an embroidery made in 1991.
CLAYDON, Suffolk - a mural painted in 1994 in a two day workshop.
CLAYHIDON, Devon - A 24" x 20" collage made by the local Women's Institute group as part of Devon Federation of Women's Institutes 75th anniversary in 1995.
CLEATOR MOOR, Cumbria - Photomontage map, 8" x 5.5", available as a postcard, 1986.
CLIFTON UPON DUNSMORE, Warwickshire - village maps made by the local history group in 1995.
CLUN, Shropshire - 5 x 30" panels made in 1991 and housed in the village hall.
CLUTTON, Somerset - An embroidered map depicts historical and significant events in the village. 12 scenes are shown over four panels, 1990.
CLYST HYDON, Devon - a 20" x 30" watercolour map of Clyst Hydon with Clyst St Lawrence and Langford which was initiated by the local WI group in 1995 but stretched further: the whole community was invited to participate, with an emphasis on the here and now as well as the past. CLYST ST GEORGE, Devon - two maps made by Lady Seaward's CofE Primary School, (1) a 2'6" square 3-D view of Clyst St George and Ebford and (2) a 3' x 18" symbolic wild flower survey of the conservation area. See also East Devon Schools.
COBERLEY, Gloucestershire - an A3 map on paper featuring sketches and pictoral symbols, 1989.
COCKING, West Sussex - a 13 ft high bronze decorated column and plinth made under the guidance of sculptor Philip Jackson as part of the West Sussex Millennium Parish Maps Project. It is featured in the book A Sense of Place and will stand on a site overlooking the South Downs.
COFFINSWELL, Devon - A painted, quilted and embroidered map made in 1993 and hanging in the church.
COLDWALTHAM, West Sussex - a 38" x 48" watercolour and photographic collage made as part of the West Sussex Millennium Parish Maps Project. It is featured in the book A Sense of Place.
COLEFORD, Somerset - a 10' x 7' hinged triptych made in 1997, featuring collaged watercolours mounted onto paper and board. It is housed in the local primary school.
COLMWORTH, Bedfordshire - A Map made by the Colmworth Voluntary Footpath Group, formed through the Parish Paths Partnership. It has been printed and displayed on a noticeboard in the middle of the village, 1995.
COLNEY HEATH, Hertfordshire - a poster showing the parish in past times.

COMBPYNE, Devon - a photographic record of properties in the area with old and new pictures and written histories. The original watercolour map is in the village hall (Peak Hall, Rousdon). COMMUNITY COUNCIL OF SHROPSHIRE have promoted parish maps since 1989, with results emerging from Baschurch, Edgmond, Lofun, Church Stretton and Quatful.
CONGRESBURY, Somerset, 1993/4 (1) Five panels, 3 feet square, textile. In Congresbury Parish Hall. (2) A recording project 'The Congresbury Chronicles'.
COOMBE VALLEY, Devon - A 5'3" x 6'6" soft sculpture quilt made by 8-10 year olds at Our Lady and St Patrick's RC Primary School, Teignmouth.
COPTHORNE, West Sussex - a 22" x 32" computer-assembled watercolour, pen & ink collage made as part of the West Sussex Millennium Parish Maps Project. A copy is displayed in St John's Church and it is featured in the book A Sense of Place.
CORFE, Dorset - A historical map with a bird's eye view guide.
CORNWOOD, Devon - Cornwood began work on a map in 1995.
COVENTRY, Warks - Coventry has a Diocese Map on display in the Cathedral. Copies are for sale in the Cathedral shop.
CRANBORNE CHASE, Wiltshire - Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty Cranborne Chase & West Wilts Downs (completed in 2006, original measuring 3' x 2'. 6"). A pictorial map by the Community Artist Angela Rawson, commissioned by the AoNB for their 50th celebration of designation of AoNB areas. The original is now in the AoNB Office at Castle Street, Cranborne and illustrates items of interest from all 104 parishes in the AoNB's area of Dorset, Hampshire, Somerset and West Wiltshire - The map depicts the downs and its wild life - rivers and its fish and insects, buildings of historical interest and much more. Copies of the map are available to buy from the maker in large format for £40 and midlle-sized (33" x 23") for £20. Contact Common Ground for ordering details.
CRANBROOK, Kent - a mixed media map made in 1988 at Cranbrook school.
CRANHAM, Gloucestershire - a WI project.
CRAWLEY DOWN, West Sussex - a 36" x 50" watercolour, pen & ink and pencil illustrated map made as part of the West Sussex Millennium Parish Maps Project.The original is kept in the Haven Community Centre, and a copy is on display in Crawley Down's shopping centre. CRAWSHAWBOOTH, Lancashire - Three maps: a footpath map; a 3-D map and an overlay map. Made during a three day festival in 1995.
CREDITON, Devon - made by the local Women's Institute group as part of Devon Federation of Women's Institutes 75th anniversary in 1995.
CREWKERNE, Somerset - made in 1988 as part of a project involving first, middle and senior schools. Consists of a series of A3 maps kept in a file by a member of the original team drawn from the Crewkerne Civic Society. It has led to an annual beating the bounds walk as near to Rogation Sunday as possible. The map has never been entirely completed.
CROSCOMBE, Somerset - a video made in 1991-92.
CROWBOROUGH, East Sussex - a fabric collage made in 1988 for an exhibition at Michelham Priory organised by the East Sussex Federation of Womens Institutes.
CROWLE, Herefordshire - an A4 drawn booklet made to help the emergency services locate houses which only have names rather than numbers, 1989-94.
CROXLEY GREEN, Hertfordshire - an A1 painted poster made in 1993 showing the parish past and present.
CROYDON, London - Little Heath Woods - a 48" x 72" montage, 1986.
CUCKFIELD, West Sussex - a map embroidered in cross-stitch and displayed at Queen's Mill.
CURRY RIVEL, Somerset - a number of maps have been created since 1988: (1) 38" x 16" coloured paper squares, based on 1842 map, showing families, activities, hobbies, buildings and wild life ; (2) 25" x 19" paper cut out map; (3) Plaque, mosaic card, 23" square showing historical and environmental features; (4) The Hambridge School map (no longer in existence); (5) church tapestry in two parts, 50 years of events in the parish and spaces left for new events to be added; (6) mosaic on the wall of the village store made over two days in local primary school workshops; (6) a batik map showing local history for the village hall.
CUTCOMBE, Somerset - A 10-month craft residency working with women in isolated areas of the county resulted in an 8' x 4' painted map made by the women of Cutcombe. It is housed in the village hall.
